Set Goals for 2003

How many times has this happened to you? The golf season has ended, and you find yourself with the same handicap you started the season with, or you still did not break that magic number of 80, 90, or 100. Do not let 2003 be just another one of those years! Set goals at the beginning of the year, and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN!

Make a list of goals you want to achieve. Be very specific, nothing like "I want to play better". List things that are measurable. Here are a few examples:

1. Win my flight of the Club Championship
2. Break 90
3. Reduce handicap from 10 to 5
4. Average less than 32 putts per round

You may have only 1 goal, or as many as 10, but the key is to write them down and put your list of goals in a place where you will see it everyday. Posting it on the refrigerator, your desk, or on the bathroom mirror will be a constant reminder of what you plan to accomplish.

Once you write down your goals, come up with a plan to help you achieve them.

Examples:
1. Practice at least 3 hours per week
2. Start a workout program to help you get in "golf shape"
3. Practice your short game for 1/2 hour after each round
4. Take a golf lesson, or a series of lessons. Find an instructor that you are comfortable with, and tell them about your goals. It is really fun to work with a student that has specific goals that excites them.

If you are serious about improving your golf game, contact your local PGA Professional. Ask them to take a close look at your game; what should be your main focus, and where you need to improve.

If you see me this summer, tell me what your goals are, and what you are doing to achieve them. I look forward to hearing about your success.

Good luck, and have fun!
